Community Spirit Blogger Challenge: Zai Lynch

Cajsa IM'd me the other night and asked me if I was interested in doing this blogger challenge...YUP! I love any opportunity to celebrate our unsung heroes!

Zai Lynch is a mate of mine from quite a ways back, she immediately sprung to mind for this. You see Zai is not one of the drama set, she's not in a fashion clique and you may never have heard of her... but Zai is amazing. When I first met her she was heavily involved in all sorts of volunteer services to help other residents, one of these was the Mentoring program.

Zai later became active as a German speaking Linguist and has done a lot to break down the language barriers in SL.

You're probably reading this and thinking that she must be someone that doesn't have a lot going on in RL, and you'd be wrong, she has a very full RL... but the truly amazing thing about Zai is that she *makes* time to help others. For as long as I have known Zai this has been true.

I don't catch up with Zai anywhere near as often as I should, I really have no excuse, I just suck basically. But she is often in my thoughts, and I check her wiki from time to time to see what latest craziness she's been up to... oh! that's the other thing about Zai, besides being a true altruist, she also is hilarious, she has a gadget for every occasion and it's ALWAYS fun, and she just has a wacky kind spirit that makes me smile.

I raise my glass to the Zai's of SL, because without people like her, SL would not be a place that I would want to stay or spend time in.

Love ya Zai,

*hugs*

Faery.

PS I blatantly flogged the image from Zai's Flickr stream *shh* I didn't know if I should upload one of my pics of Zai with her funky dreads as she seems to be all chic nowadays! LOL

How your viewer could be effecting how you see prims

Hi everyone,

A conundrum was happened upon recently while I was building my latest release, and I thought I would share the investigation and findings with you all.

Firstly, the dilemma: I had made a pendant using 40ish prims, most of which where sculpties and VERY tiny. When finished I sent them to my friends (as you do LOL) to great reviews so all seemed well and ready for release \o/

But then... I received an IM from Ben Vanguard who I had sent a pack to, if you've ever sent stuff to Ben for review, you KNOW he will tell you if there is something not right (one of the things I really respect about Ben). He was seeing the prim wiring at the sides of the pendant being way out of alignment! "OMG!!! How??? was my first thought" because I had done all the close-up shots of the pendants for my ads the day before, and they where fine... so I rezzed one to have a look and then I saw what he was seeing >.<

So I set to work fixing the prims, I then sent it to Ben and a copy to a fellow creator. I then got two IM's one from Ben: "Perfect! I love it" (or words to that effect LOL) but from my friend, she said that she saw the prims waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out!!!

So I thought about this for a bit, and I will admit, freaked out some... you hear about prims moving quite frequently, but how can you fix what you don't see or how can you accommodate for all the various ways people will see the one thing??? I removed my pendants from sale until I could work out what was going on.

I sent packs to my friends and got pics back, five pics in all... 5 different peoples view of my pendants:

I then got to thinking (after auto-rant about glitches and bugs for a while), what if it's the viewer people are using? So Ben who is lovely, and was just as thrown by this as me, set to work researching, downloading various viewers to test the theory. I had been using the new release viewer when taking building the pendants, but had switched back to the official viewer (1.19.1(4)) because I didn't want to upload the update at the time :P

This is what we came up with (compare the below with those above)the official release viewer at this stage is shown to be the safer bet for prim alignment (at least in this case) but as you will see above, how old your download of that version is, appears to impact on what you see. Here are the pics of fresh downloads of the official viewer on two different computers (last two images):

BIG difference between viewer versions and age of download hey!!!

Anyways, that concludes my VERY long post, sorry about that...but thank you for reading all the way to here :)

New Releases - Out with the Old; In with the New!

This top was part of a larger collection, but is now being sold on it's own...I've had many requests to do this, and finally, it's done :o) The Butterfly is one of my RL paintings brought to life in SL...wear your art! and is available at Studio Sidhe [Main Store] - Look for top pic on the vendor. The second pic is of the hand painted scarf that I have included as a little bonus. The top is in both underwear and shirt layers, and the scarf is in shirt and jacket layers...enjoy! Now for the NEW!...

These uni-sex Astrology T-Shirts are a remake of my old ones (that will be retired in-world at the end of the month). Your probably wondering why I remade them, and the answer is simple...they where one of the first things I made in SL and used the generous Robin (Sojourner) Wood tutorial and template to do it :o) Since then I have learned so much and wanted to apply some of what I've learned to my older stuff (there is nothing written that says we can't revisit and improve! *grins*)

I hope you enjoy these little offerings, until next time...

Take care and have fun!

Studio Sidhe has a Shiny New Look!

I know! what is this... look No.256 for Studio Sidhe??? No I'm not THAT bad... but this is it, the one... I finally reached a point where I had the tools (yay for PS and graphics tablet!), the land AND the prims to do exactly what I wanted!!! *happy dance*

I do want to say thank you to a few people because, lets face it... very little of what we do in SL is on our own :o) I have included links to everyones stores for ease of reference should you be looking for similar services or products or just because they have stores and that's where you can find them LOL :o)

Credits:

Textures: interior and exterior walls from LFox with some PS editing and viney magic done by me ;)
Landscaping: Trees, ground cover etc from Botanical and Jenika Connolly of Freak Boutique who turned her ultra-talented hand to landscaping for me and totally added the finishing touches...Thanks Jen! XD
Garden Furniture: from PixelDolls. Is there anything that Nephilaine Protagonist can't do??? She's brilliant!
Technical Advice on scripts and build: Kamian Trescothick of Aristocrat Homes A good mate who offered to build the shop for me at the outset, then when I was resolute that I would do it, was there to help me problem solve and offer handy hints... even though he was incredibly busy building stores for two other designers! :D
Door Scripts: Paskis' [Door Scripts ] An incredibly easy to use set of scripts, great instructions and demo's!
Moral support and encouragement: Wednesday Soon of Woo's!*hugs*
AND last but not least my fellow Designers in Seclusion, an awesome group of wonderfully helpful, supportive and talented people.... *giggles at door saga*... when you stop by the store; please take a moment to admire the doors! LOL they where a trial and a half =D

Anyways, come over and have a look, sit and chill in the garden and enjoy!
Take care,

~Faery~
